I've been working my new job for a couple of weeks now, and I like it well enough. :) This friday and saturday my boss was away for the weekend, and I had two days looking after the shop all alone for the first time. It went well, even if I had to call my boss about eight times or so on friday! I have to admit that it made me a bit embarrassed, but she thankfully did not mind at all. I did not need to call her at all on saturday, so that was good. I'm still able to learn!

I spent the two days mending and altering various pieces of clothing. Mostly trousers that needed to be made either shorther or longer. But I also got to work on a pretty two layer summer dress in white chiffon with a flower print on it. I turned it from a slightly fraying floor-lenght dress into a neat knee-lenght number. The customer picked it up on saturday, and was satisfied with the result. :)

I've also been sewing a lot more on my own as well. Right now I'm waiting for an order I made for some zippers, so I can finish a dress and a t-shirt. After that I plan to make a pair of fall-front trousers out of a gray and white striped fabric. I have allready ordered some buttons I will use for the project. :) And today my mother found some silk from China she got from my uncle and aunt many years ago, and wondered if I was interested in having it and making something out of it! I plan to use it for a dress with a simple cut. The facric has a very bold pattern, so it will look best if the dress is not too complicated.

I've also fallen a bit in love with velvet lately. I will have to make some clothing in velvet in the furure. :) I think I also might end up ordering some of the pretty things in velvet i found on the Zaful online shop. ;)

Some good news for me today. I got the sewing job at the shopping centre. :) I will begin in May, and I will work a couple of days a week, there is a possebility for getting more. Which I hope I do. Unless the Opera wants me that is. :P

I have to admit that I'm a bit uncertain about this job, because at the the interview I did not really get any proper questions, and I did not really get a grasp on what they wanted and expected from me. I know that they are a very new and also very small business, and there has been some issues with employees before. So they are quite new to it all, and have never done something like this before.

Still, it makes me a bit uneasy about how "safe" this job is.

I have also applied for work at a railroad museum in town, and if they call me in for an interview I will go. I know that sewing is what I'm most interested in, but I do need more work than two days a week. Not to mention that I generally prefer a well established company when it comes to getting a job. The job at the museum is a 65% position, so I might be able to combine it with the sewing.

I have a job interview next week! And it's for a sewing job!

One of the shopping centers in town have this sewing room where they do tailormade clothing, as well as repairs and alterations. My job (if I get it) will be doing repairs and alterations. Not the most exiting work, but at least it's something :) The job is a temp job, so if I'm really really lucky, then I can work there until autumn, when I hopefully will begin my new adventure as a costume maker apprentice at the opera.

I have my fingers crossed! :D

This week will be the last I spend in the bookshop. Yesterday was our last "official" day with business as usual. The rest of the week will be spent packing down everything and sending them to various other Notabene bookshops.

This, of course, means that I'm hunting for a new job!

I have gotten some encouragement to apply for the position of deputy manager in a bookshop a few towns over. They are a Notabene, like us, and I have worked with them over the phone many times. But to be honest I'm still hopeful that Outland, who are taking over our old premises, will get around to holding interviews soon! According to the director of the shopping centre they are going to use a meeting room upstairs to conduct these meetings. And so far they have not gotten around to it. And today I was encouraged to apply for work at Kitch'n. Which I naturally will do, as I can't really afford to be picky.

And then there is The Norwegian Opera and Ballet! They are looking for two apprentices to learn costume sewing this autumn! And geting in there would be the best of all! I know that they prefer to take on people who allready know a thing or two about sewing, so I'm hoping that my journeyman in dressmaking will make me a good candidate. Along with the voluntary sewing I have been doing for the local opera for two seasons now.

So right now I feel as though I'm floating in this odd in between space. I'm almost unemployed, but I might have a handful of opportunities  for new work within reach. I just hope I will be satisfied with what I end up with. I say this even if I'm well aware of the fact that I will most likely enjoy Kitch'n a lot less then an apprenticeship at the opera.
